Gina Bertolini

Gina is a strategic health care legal executive with over twenty years’ experience managing legal functions for academic medical centers (AMCs), large health systems, and ancillary providers. Recognized as a trusted advisor to health care executives and boards, Gina has counseled senior health system leadership on a variety of governance, operational, and regulatory matters, including health care fraud and abuse, medical staff matters, data privacy, state and federal licensure and certification, patient-related matters; health care M&A; and complex commercial contracting. 

Most recently, Gina was a partner in the Health Care Practice Group of K&L Gates, where she advised academic medical centers and large health systems, as well as health IT and digital health companies. Previously, Gina served as Deputy General Counsel and Associate Vice President for the University of Michigan Health System (now Michigan Medicine). Prior to that, Gina was Associate General Counsel at UNC Health Care, where, among other responsibilities, she served as Chief Legal Officer for UNC Physicians Network. In those roles, Gina advised on healthcare operations, physician compensation, health system M&A, medical staff matters, and government investigations, among other things. 

Gina frequently advises on the complex interplay between privacy, technology, and health care, including the use of AI. Gina also has an interest in issues related to the facilitation of patient care, including informed consent, medical ethics, treatment of minors, reproductive health, and end-of-life decision-making. Gina has been ranked by Chambers (Band 2, Healthcare) and Best Lawyers in America and is a frequent national speaker on critical legal issues in healthcare. 

Gina earned her J.D. cum laude from UC Hastings College of the Law (now UC Law San Francisco), where she was a Tony Patino Fellow, member of the Order of the Coif, National Moot Court finalist, and National Association of Women Lawyers Student of the Year. Gina holds a B.F.A. with honors from DePaul University.
